FANCY a run around Warragul? An event aimed at encouraging physical activity and community engagement will be held on Smith Street this Sunday.

Get Moving Baw Baw will allow people to walk, run or cycle a three kilometre route around the town in celebration of the new Trail Trak app from the Baw Baw Shire Council.

The event will involve the closure of Smith Street between Palmerston and Victoria streets from 09:30 until 15:00.

Participants will complete a circuit around the town beginning and ending at the Smith and Albert streets roundabout at 11.00.

All members of the community have been encouraged to attend warm up activities in the morning and lunch, music and other performances after the event.

Participants must pay a $5 fee to enter the event, which includes lunch and the presentation.

Baw Baw mayor Debbie Brown said the shire featured many tracks for people of all ages or abilities.

“This event will be a great opportunity for the community to get together and enjoy some fresh air and physical activity,” Cr Brown said in a media release.

The Trail Trak app will provide users with the ability to chart their progress on those tracks and share photographs of the journey with their friends.

The free app was created by the Baw Baw Shire Council as part of its Being Healthy in Baw Baw program, in conjunction with the Federal Government’s Healthy Communities Initiative and VicHealth.

The Warragul Business Group will also be publicising “Grow Warragul” – an effort make the town greener and more attractive – at the event.
