Bad weather forces emergency road works in Thorpdale

EMERGENCY works to reinstate the Trafalgar South Road culvert in Thorpdale are under way following the road’s recent closure to through traffic.

The road was closed after recent bad weather and is expected to reopen next week.

A council contractor is carrying out the works.

“Replacing the culvert on Trafalgar South Road, Thorpdale was made a high priority following the harsh storms that hit the region in late August,” Baw Baw mayor Debbie Brown said in a media release.

$120,000 has been allocated to works at the site, which will include the reinstatement of pavement, rock beaching of inlet and outlet structures, the installation of guardrails and reinstatement of the site.

The council will also schedule replacement culvert works on Narracan’s Schofields Road next month as part of its 2015/16 Capital Works Program.

“I look forward to seeing the completion of the replacement culvert on Schofields Road, Narracan so we can ensure that all road users are safe when travelling on our roads,” Cr Brown said.

The replacement culverts are expected to last at least 80 years , supporting surrounding waterways and managing roadway run-off.
