THE BAW Baw Shire Council is advertising its Buy Local program on the Noojee to Warragul bus in an attempt to support local businesses.

The program is designed to promote locally made and grown products and local retailers to locals.

Mayor Murray Cook said in a media release the advertisement, which covers half of the back of the bus, was one of many ways the program promoted local businesses to locals.

“The program is free for businesses to be involved with, aiming to encourage consumers to purchase local, not just locally,” Cr Cook said.

“The advertising on the bus also encourages people to visit the Buy Baw Baw website that lists all of the local products, producers and retailers.

“Retailers throughout Baw Baw Shire face the ongoing challenge of consumers heading to larger retail centres or online to shop.

“They need as much support from the community as possible to ensure that they can remain sustainable into the future and prosper.”

Great intiative if you’re looking for some beads or a piece of art or some cheese or a quilt.

Looking through the list of businesses on the website, there aren’t any businesses where the normal, everyday grocery shopper would attend.
