OVER $1 million in funding from the Victorian Natural Disaster Relief Fund will go toward repairing the landslide-damaged Ferndale-Strzelecki Road.

The Baw Baw Shire Council has been given $1.2 million to repair the damage caused by two landslides, with repair works due to start in April and be completed by August.

The road was closed in June 2012 after a landslide caused impassable damage to the road, forcing Ferndale residents to take detours.

A second landslide further on the road later that month caused more damage.

Then-Mayor Diane Blackwood said damage assessments and repair plans had been delayed by poor weather.

“Along with everyone else, we are praying for a break in the weather so that our roads are not continuously inundated with water and we can carry out our planned road works,” Cr Blackwood said.

The $1.2 million is on top of the over $2.8 million already given to Baw Baw by the Relief Fund for emergency road maintenance.
