Firefighters battling Darnum grassfire

FIREFIGHTERS are battling a “medium”-sized grassfire which started near Little Moe River Road between Darnum and Yarragon and is heading east towards the Princes Freeway.

Update (26/3): The fire has been declared safe after increasing in size.

The Country Fire Authority has advised residents of Darnum, Yarragon, Buln Buln, Lillico, Shady Creek and Nilma North that the fire is “being controlled” and smoke may be visible from nearby towns.

Twenty-five appliances are at the scene.

Residents are advised to monitor conditions, check their bushfire survival plans and if time permits to check on neighbours.
