LIBERAL MP and candidate in tomorrow’s state election Gary Blackwood has promised the duplication of the Gippsland rail line between Longwarry and Bunyip should the coalition remain in government.
Mr Blackwood also promised an extra weekday return peak service from Traralgon to Melbourne which, on return, would run express from Dandenong to Drouin, increased weekend services, improved signalling and the removal of level crossings on the Dandenong rail corridor.

The announcement came after Labor’s promise to introduce additional services pending a review of the regional network development plan and also the removal of 14 level crossings on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines should the party form government.
The Liberals’ plan has come under fire from Labor upper house candidate John Anderson, who noted the new train sets promised by the Liberals would only come in 2016 and compared the duplication plan to the Doncaster and Rowville rail projects.
“It’s all from 2016,” he told the Warragul & Baw Baw Citizen.
“All the train sets that are coming are a 10 year project to 2026, and the Bunyip duplication’s predicated on a lot of work occurring down the line so really there’s no timeframes on it.

“This is like the Doncaster or Rowville rail link, they were promised but never materialised.
“I’m very very cynical about the promises made in regards to the transport plan that Gary’s put forward for Gippsland.”
