STICKERS placed on windows of empty shops in Drouin are inviting locals to say what they would like to see in the vacant spaces, but nobody knows who put them there.

The yellow and red stickers on the former Simon’s, C4Clothes, Boomtown Pet Shop, Jakk’s Pizza Shack and Abby’s Cafe sites simply state “I wish this was…”, with a blank space left for townspeople to respond.

Responses included:

  • A Japanese or Turkish restaurant,
  • A deli,
  • A youth centre,
  • A bike hire facility,
  • A cinema,
  • A record shop,
  • A silent disco,
  • “Not another real estate agent”,
  • A health food store,
  • An art gallery, and more.

Pens and pencils wrapped in Velcro were attached to windows for people to respond with.

The stickers were put up on or before Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for the Drouin and District Business Group told The Warragul Citizen their organisation was not behind the stickers and they were unsure who was.

The “I wish this was” stickers first appeared in New Orleans, America, in November 2010 in an attempt to revive empty storefronts.

What shops or services would you like to see in Drouin’s CBD? Let us know through the comments form below the photos.
