The project will involve the construction of a new carpark, a bus interchange and a new road underpass near the station, as well as moving the historic goods shed.

In a media release announcing the tendering, Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder said the combining of the station and underpass projects would save money.

“By combining the new station carpark, bus interchange and the road-under-rail project we can use more of the money on the works and reduce the duplication for managing it,” Mr Mulder said.

The underpass will connect Alfred Street to Queen Street and traffic signals will be added to the intersection of Normanby Place and Queen Street.
