CONSTRUCTION company Thiess has been awarded the contract to build Warragul’s $26 million rail precinct upgrade.
Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Narracan MP Gary Blackwood, McMillan MP Russell Broadbent and Baw Baw mayor Murray Cook announced Thiess as the contract winner in a ceremony at Warragul Station last week.
In a media release Mr Blackwood said the upgrades would “be a great boost for the Warragul community.”

“The Warragul Rail Precinct Upgrade is an important regional project which will help boost the local
economy,” he said.
The project will see the creation of 200 new parking spaces and a new bus interchange on the former goods sidings site, but access will be limited to a ramp roughly following the present bridge across the tracks.
The position of the bridge has caused concern among community members who have noted its distance away from the station.
The precinct upgrade will also see the construction of a new underpass connecting Normanby Place to Alfred Street and the relocation and restoration of the historic goods shed.

Is this the start of the end of the historic railway station building? Grubby developers should be sent packing by the BBSC Council – if indeed Council has the backbone.
