WARRAGUL police senior sergeant John Brookes OAM has described the town’s New Year celebrations as “generally… quiet” but not without an arrest and calls about noisy parties, burnouts and fireworks.

Sgt Brookes told The Warragul Citizen there was one arrest on New Year’s Day for a damage and assault incident the day before.

“An 18 year old Warragul man at a Warragul address where persons were known to each other was arrested,” he said.

“The offender was interviewed by police, charged and bailed to appear at the Latrobe Valley Magistrate’s court [next month].

“It was generally a quiet New Year’s Eve around the Warragul township, with the usual calls about noisy parties, reports of cars doing burnouts and fireworks causing pets to run off.”
