West Gippsland warned of severe weather

THE BUREAU of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for people in West Gippsland ahead of forecast damaging winds.

Update 3:30pm 5 July: the warning remains in place for West Gippsland.

The Bureau said in a warning that damaging winds averaging 50 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 100km/h have been forecast to develop today across Gippsland, including West Gippsland.

East Gippsland is expected to hardest hit with forecast peaks of 120 km/h late this afternoon and overnight.

A warning issued for parts of the South West forecast district has been cancelled.

The State Emergency Service has advised that vehicles be moved under cover or away from trees, loose items be secured, fallen power lines be avoided and that drivers be cautious of debris and fallen trees on roads.
