Low blow: Baw Baw Shire contractors are fighting to remove what could be plaster of paris and liquid nails from Lionel Rose's statue.
Police are appealing for witnesses after vandals defaced late boxing champion Lionel Rose’s Queen Street Park statue.
The statue was covered in a white substance last Monday night which Baw Baw Shire contractors are still attempting to remove.

Police are yet to determine what the substance is, but one contractor told The Warragul Citizen plaster of paris and liquid nails appear to have been used.
Warragul Police Acting Sergeant Simon Phillips said police have had little success in identifying the vandals.
“We’ve got very limited information at this stage so there’s not really a lot to work on,” Sgt Phillips said.
“At this stage the investigation’s still active but what we are asking is that it be put out in the media appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.”

Sgt Phillips said the attacks don’t seem to have a motivation.
“We don’t think that there’s any specific motivation for it, I think it’s more just a sort of spur of the moment… type thing,” Sgt Phillips said.
“We haven’t got any specific leads; we’re not looking for anyone in particular.”
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Rose’s death.
