twcbluewTHE VICTORIAN Government has committed $1 million for regional councils, waste management groups and public land managers to fund litter reduction programs.

The Regional Public Place Recycling Grants program will offer grants of between $15,000 and $100,000 for successful applicants to install recycling bins and to encourage recycling in communities.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith said in a media release the bins will make a difference.

“Accessible and well-maintained rubbish and recycling bins contribute towards litter prevention and make it easier for people to do the right thing by recycling,” he said.

“The 2013 Regional Public Place Recycling Grants will help install new recycling bins and other infrastructure for people to dispose of waste when they are out and about, reducing unsightly litter and creating a safer and healthier environment for all Victorians.”

The new program comes after the launch of the regional Get it Right on Bin Night campaign launched by the state earlier this month.

No Baw Baw towns, projects or groups were among the 2013 Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Awards finalists.
