Baw Baw Shire has appointed a new community assets director, three months after the former director jumped to Frankston City.

Cohen Van der Velde, who most recently worked for over six years as Bass Coast Shire’s manager of infrastructure delivery, will take up the position left vacant by Phil Cantillon.

Phil left the council on 6 October, and the announcement of Cohen’s appointment came last Friday. That might seem a long time, but the position had been vacant for over a year when Phil took the reigns in 2012.

A qualified civil engineer with over a decade of experience in local government, Cohen also has history in Baw Baw having attended secondary school in Warragul.

“Cohen’s specialist knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will be a real asset to the role and ensure that we continue to deliver quality infrastructure, upgrades and services to the Baw Baw Shire community,” Baw Baw CEO Alison Leighton said in a media release.

“I am confident that Cohen will do an outstanding job leading our infrastructure and assets portfolio ensuring projects and services are delivered in-line with community needs and expectations.”
