BRUCE Edwin Armstrong of Warragul and Roy Alfred Berryman of Longwarry North are among 582 Australians to receive Order of Australia awards this Queen’s Birthday weekend.
Both men received their awards for their contributions to the arts and the community.

Mr Armstrong received his award for his service to the community of Warragul and to music, in particular brass brands.
Mr Armstong has been Bandmaster and Acting Bandmaster of the Warragul Municipal Band and other local bands for several years, was musical director and conductor of the Victorian State Youth Brass Band for several years and worked as a music teacher at St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School during the 1980s and 90s.
Mr Armstong is also an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Warragul and has been a member of and musical contributor to the Warragul Anglican Church for over 40 years.

Mr Berryman was awarded for his service to the communities of Gippsland and to the arts.
A member of a number of photographic organisations, Mr Berryman is an honorary fellow of the Australian Photographic Society, of which he was president from 1984 to 1986.
Mr Berryman has served as president of the Warragul Camera Club, the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies, the Rotary Club of Warragul where he was involved in establishing a photographic art exhibition, Longwarry North Primary School Council and the Leica Photographic Society.

Mr Armstong and Mr Berryman have both received awards previously, with Mr Armstrong receiving a Centenary Medal in 2001 and Mr Berryman becoming a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Warragul in 1989.
The Governor-General of Australia Quentin Bryce approved this year’s awards, which celebrate the contributions of Australians to their country and to the world.
“I want to give my strong support to the awards made through the Australian Honours System,” Ms Bryce said in a media release.
“They elevate the concept of giving to others. They heighten our respect for one another, and they encourage Australians to think about the responsibilities of citizenship in our democracy.”
