Kath Rowley is the daughter of Carol and Bernie Rowley, from the Rose and Fuchsia Nursery at Trafalgar.
Kath completed Year 12 at Warragul High School in 1989 and was awarded Dux of the school. She worked in Morwell and Traralgon with Federal Government ASIC from 1990. Kath later studied at the University of Melbourne winning a final year scholarship to Duke University, North Carolina and University of Texas, Austin USA. She received degrees in Environmental Science and Law.
Kath Rowley is General Manager, Reviews at the Climate Change Authority. She joined the Authority in January 2013, after 3 years at global think tank the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI). As Director of CPI’s San Francisco office, she established and led a team of analysts evaluating US climate and energy policy, and worked with policy makers to improve policy efficiency and effectiveness.
Ms Rowley has worked in climate and sustainability policy at the state and federal level in Australia since 2000. Her work spanned emissions trading, in the development of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, and the Federal Government Nuclear Panel, reviewing nuclear power use for Australia. She also worked on international negotiations in 2009 towards and at the UNFCCC Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, plus economic modelling, voluntary government-industry partnerships and regulatory regimes. For a short period Ms Rowley also investigated carbon sequestration in soils.
Her talk will be titled ‘Climate policy in the US and Australia – similarities and differences’.
