MEMBERS of the Gippsland community have been encouraged participate in this year’s West Gippsland Music and Drama Eisteddfod.

Participants can now enter for the musical and theatrical extravaganza, which will run from 24 July until 16 August across a number of venues in Warragul.

The event will showcase community talent with performances by pianists, bands, solo vocalists, actors and actresses.

The event will also host the fourth Gippsland Parasteddfod, allowing Gippsland residents with a disability to perform in a non-competitive environment.

Year 12 students currently undertaking Music Performance or Music Investigation units in VCE can perform and compete against each other in unique sections for piano, modern voice and other instruments.

Bands of all styles are welcome to battle it out in the Instrumental Groups section, with two new ‘Rock Band’ divisions for school students and adults being introduced this year.

People more inclined towards pop and rock songs can enter the Modern Vocal category, with solo artists, duos or trios welcome to participate.

Children under the age of 15 are able to win the Gippsland Region Award for traditional singing.

There will also be a public speaking competition and a freestyle section, which welcomes all forms of vocal expression including rap and slam poetry.

Entries are open until 5 June and entry fees range from $7 to $35 with up to $150 being awarded for individual prizes.

All participants can enter at www.stardom.com.au.

Anyone interested in helping run the event can contact the Secretary of the West Gippsland Music and Drama Eisteddfod at enquiries@wge.org.au.
