In an attempt to encourage under 18’s to play, the club is giving eligible players a raffle ticket to win a Holden VR Commodore Acclaim every time they play, train or organise a club function.

The club nearly folded and was almost expelled from the Ellinbank & District Football League last year after it lost all its junior players.

Club President Mat Price told The Warragul Citizen the idea cam from a committee member and is popular with the club.

“It sounded like a ripper of an idea,” Mr Price said.

In a media release, Mr Price said clubs are struggling to attract younger players and the raffle would attract youth of all abilities.

“With most clubs struggling for junior players this year, we have again looked outside the square,” Mr Price said.

“What young adult wouldn’t love the opportunity to win a car at the end of the season, and all they have to do is play the game they love – footy.

“A ticket in the raffle will be given to a person every time they play, train and attend an organised club function, this means [they] don’t have to be the best player, more the best clubman, which gives everyone a chance to win the prize.”

The club bought the car with the help of sponsors and supporters.
