Fire crews are fighting an eight-hectare bushfire in steep terrain north of Rawson in Baw Baw’s north east.

Emergency advice suggests there are presently 15 vehicles responding to the Alpine Walking Track fire, and that fire fighters “are making good progress on this fire.”

A Baw Baw Shire spokesperson said “there is no threat to the community and it’s expected to be contained by later today.”
“There is currently a fire burning north of Rawson at the Rawson Old Steel Bridge on the Alpine Walking Track.
“It’s currently eight hectares and still going.
“The fire has been bombed by aircraft and crews are constructing rakehoe lines where they can in the steep terrain.”

Emergency services have advised those in the Rawson, Erica, and Walhalla area to monitor weather conditions.
