A SECTION of Sutton Street was closed this evening as fire crews worked to put out a fire which started inside a car.

Warragul Fire Brigade first lieutenant and incident controller Brian Dalrymple told the Warragul & Baw Baw Citizen the car was inside a shed when it caught fire.

“When we arrived the car was fully involved, as well as the rear half of the shed,” he said.

“The majority of the contents of the shed are destroyed just through being melted due to the excessive heat.

“It’s believed the occupant was doing some work on his car and it’s gone pear-shaped from there.”

Mr Dalrymple said the incident highlighted the need for fire safety in all buildings, not just houses.

“Always make sure you’ve got a working fire extinguisher and some kind of fire protection inside your shed as well as your house,” he said.

Fire crews from Warragul, Drouin and Traralgon brigades as well as police attended the scene.
