Council conducts last meeting before caretaker period

THE LAST Baw Baw Shire Council General Meeting before the election caretaker period took place yesterday.

In the meeting, which lasted over three hours, councillors passed motions on funding the planned Warragul Outdoor Pool, the Road Management Plan, the Palmerston Street redevelopment, the Bike It Baw Baw study, SES funding and more.

Also adopted was the Council Term 2008-2012 Report, which summarises the actions of the council since the last election.

The report investigates the effect of natural disasters in service delivery, council construction projects and planning activities since 2008. [Click here to read the report in the meeting minutes.]

The caretaker period begins on September 25, ahead of the Baw Baw Shire General Election on October 27.

During the period councils are barred from making major policy decisions or distributing electoral matter not related to election process.

Major policy decisions include projects with a contractual value exceeding $100,000 or 1 per cent of council rate revenue.
