A SEVERE weather warning is in place for West Gippsland and other forecast districts as a low pressure system crosses the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast damaging winds of around 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of up to 110km/h for the region tonight, with gusts up to 130km/h “likely” over Alpine areas.
The SES has advised those in recently fire affected areas of Mt Baw Baw to be aware of possible debris in rainfall run-off, including soil, ash, trees and rocks, and to be alert to potential landslides.
St Kilda recorded a gust of 100km/h as the system passed over earlier this afternoon.
The SES has also advised people to move vehicles under cover or away from trees, secure loose items outside, to keep clear of fallen power lines, to not drive, ride or walk through flood water and to keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
