A SEVERE weather warning is in place for West Gippsland with damaging winds reaching up to 100 kilometres per hour forecast for this afternoon and evening.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says winds of around 60 kilometres per hour with peak gusts of 100 kilometres per hour will affect West, East and South Gippsland forecast districts.

Meteorologist Hans Van Meurs told The Warragul Citizen a quiet weekend will follow the rough weather.
“The low pressure system (over the Bass Strait) which produced gale-force winds today will move out to the Tasman Sea tonight and a high pressure system will form rapidly in its place,” Mr Van Meurs said.
“The wind will die down very quickly this evening.”

The State Emergency Service advises people to move vehicles undercover or away from trees, to secure loose items outdoors and keep clear of fallen power lines.
