FLOWERS were left at the statue of Lionel Rose MBE in Queen Street Park on the anniversary of the late boxer’s death last Thursday.

Rose was born at Jacksons Track in 1948 and at the age of 15 won his first title, the Australian amateur flyweight.
In his boxing career, Rose won 42 of 53 fights and in 1968 was the second Australian to claim the world bantamweight boxing title.

Rose also had success in a singing career, recording tracks including “I Thank You”, “Please Remember Me” and “Jackson Track”.
Rose died on 8 May 2011.
