MOUNT Worth ward councillor Bill Harrington has been hailed as “a true gentleman” by the Baw Baw Shire Council after he died last night.

In a statement to media, CEO Helen Anstis said the council stalwart and active community member would be missed.

“It is with great sadness that I acknowledge that our longest serving councillor, Bill Harrington, passed away last night,” Ms Anstis said.

“Bill has served on council since the first elections following amalgamation.

“Bill was a dedicated husband and father, a well respected Justice of the Peace, and active member of the community, participating on many sporting club and community boards.

“Bill was a true gentleman: quiet; witty and passionate. He will be missed by many in our community and especially within Council.”

Mr Harrington was also heavily involved in the arts, serving on the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee and often seen at art events around the shire.

A countback will take place to determine who takes up Mr Harrington’s place on the council.
