ANYONE not stuck in a building or glued to a smartphone today might have noticed a strange shape in the sky which was seen across a large section of west and central Gippsland.

A number of locals reported and photographed a fallstreak hole, also known as a skypunch among other names, which is a gap which appears in certain cloud types.

The formations are rare and scientists have established a link with aircraft movements.
Fallstreak holes occur when the temperature of water in clouds is below zero but ice has not formed. As ice crystals form, water around the crystals evaporates and leaves a large hole.
Simply amazing. Mother nature blows me away..
