A 30-metre deep landslip has caused the closure of Mountain View-McDonalds Track in Mountain View, south of Warragul.

The Baw Baw Shire has closed the road in the interests of public safety.

The slip occurred approximately 3.6 kilometres from Main South Road and approximately 4.46 kilometres from Warragul-Korumburra Road.

Signage is being installed to divert traffic north along Main South Road, Torwood-Topiram Road, Lardner’s Track and Warragul-Korumburra Road.

Mayor of the Baw Baw Shire Councillor Diane Blackwood said in a media release that the cost of rebuilding the road will be significant.

“Repairing land slips comes at a significant cost and it is additional funding that will have to be found in the Council budget,” Cr Blackwood said.

Cr Blackwood also said that safety was the primary concern behind the closure.

“While we understand the inconvenience this causes to residents, public safety must remain our number one priority,” Cr Blackwood said.
