The Baw Baw Shire Council has appointed a new Director of Community Assets, a year after the position was vacated.
New director, Mr Phil Cantillon, will begin work on Monday October 8.

The position was almost filled in May; however the applicant withdrew for “personal reasons” shortly before he was due to take the position.
Acting Director Simon Hill has held the position since now- Director of Compliance and Corporate Services Tim Frederico changed roles in the council.
Baw Baw Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Ms Helen Anstis, told The Warragul Citizen in June both positions will be filled by this month.
Ms Anstis said the new director has years of experience in local government.

“Phil brings with him more than 25 years of leadership, management and technical experience in infrastructure in both local and state government environments,” Ms Anstis said.
“Phil has worked with the Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources since 1997, most recently in the role of Director of Operations of the Roads and Traffic Division for the Tasmanian state government.”
“He has been responsible for delivering the state’s roads program and major infrastructure projects through a very challenging growth period, and has extensive experience in contract management, procurement and stakeholder engagement.”
“Prior to this, Phil was employed by the New South Wales Road Traffic Authority for eight years, and previously worked at the former Victorian Road Traffic Authority, now VicRoads, and Broadmeadows City Council.”
“Phil and his family will relocate to Baw Baw Shire, where his wife’s family are from.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Council staff for their support, particularly Simon Hill, who has been in the role of Acting Director for the past 12 months,” said Ms Anstis.
“Simon faced many challenges during his term as Acting Director, including leading the Council through the early closure of the Trafalgar landfill and overseeing the development of the capital works budget.”
