A Poowong man has been arrested in relation to an explosion earlier this month at Tynong’s Gumbuya Leisure Park, which damaged the venue’s iconic golden pheasant statue.
The man was arrested in Nyora yesterday morning as part of an investigation by the Arson and Explosion Squad into the explosion.

Gumbuya Park General Manager Claire Snowden told The Warragul Citizen that repairing the 25 metre tall concrete statue is expected to cost between $32,000 and $34,000.
“It’s effected (sic) even more that we thought originally,” Ms Snowden said.

Police also executed warrants at houses in Poowong and Labertouche as part of the investigation.

The man has been released from custody ahead of further enquiries.
The attack has prompted the park’s management to invest $10,000 to expand its CCTV network to cover the entire venue. Security patrols have also been implemented.
“[Security measures are] now in the front part, which was never a problem before,” Ms Snowden said.
Ms Snowden said that the repairs will take place as soon as contractors are available.
