Proposal to celebrate Bill Harrington with park renaming

THE YARRAGON and District Community Association has proposed renaming the town’s Market Street Park in honour of late Mount Worth ward councillor Bill Harrington.

The proposal would the park would become “Harrington Park”.

The park, situated on the corner of Market and Murray streets, is presently undergoing a major redevelopment brought on by Mr Harrington while on the Baw Baw Shire Council.

Mr Harrington’s family has expressed support for the move.

The park redevelopment saw a new playground, exercise area, paths, bollard lighting and drainage installed, as well as new trees planed, fencing installed and the refurbishment of the existing pavilion.

The redevelopment is expected to be completed by the end of the month if weather is good.

A Baw Baw Shire spokesperson said in a media release the council welcomes submissions to the proposal.
