Warragul Police Senior Sergeant John Brookes told The Warragul Citizen the 23-year-old Warragul man was skateboarding near the Caltex service station in the Woolworths car park when a black ute sped past.

The victim told police he called out at the driver to slow down, after which the driver left the vehicle and punched him three times in the right side of his face.

The victim fell to the ground unconscious, after which the driver grabbed the man’s skateboard and hit him over the head with it.

The driver, who was unknown to the victim, left in an unknown direction at about 10.30pm.

The victim was left with severe facial swelling and his forehead bleeding after the attack and was treated in the Warragul hospital.

The victim did not know the driver and police are appealing for witnesses to the attack to come forward. CCTV footage is also being investigated.

The Toyota Hilux dual-cab ute is described as being black with mag wheels, very clean and could have personalised registration plates which appear to read “MASON”.

Mr Brookes said the vehicle is probably local.

Anyone with any information about the attack should call the Warragul Police Station on 5622 7111, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
