The Baw Baw Shire Council has committed $2000 for an after hours compliance and education program for the Smoke Free Outdoor Areas policy.

A 12-month trial of the policy was introduced at the start of August, but The Warragul Citizen has learned that at least one Warragul cafe is ignoring the alfresco smoking bans.
Enforcing the bans has been an issue for the council. Several sources told The Warragul Citizen in June that the council was not planning to enforce the ban, leaving it to be entirely community-enforced.
The policy has been commended by Quit Victoria and the Heart Foundation and the Municipal Association of Victoria has recommended to the State Government that a unified smoking ban policy be introduced.
