NEW SPEED limits have been announced for a number of roads in Drouin by the Baw Baw Shire Council.

Weerong Road’s current 70kmph limit will be cut to 60, Longwarry Road will be brought down to 80kmph from 100 between Gardner and Holman Road and Longwarry Drouin Road, and those those travelling along Wellwood Road will be permitted to drive at 80kmph until after the intersection of Weerong Road.

The new restrictions will come into effect by the end of June.

Baw Baw Shire mayor Debbie Brown said the changes were a response to recently expressed community concerns about the growth in traffic along Weerong Road.

“It is anticipated that the changes to the speed limits in this area will alleviate these concerns and improve road safety for all users,” Cr Brown said in a media release.

The changes have been approved by VicRoads.

  1. Brigitte McDonald says:

A slight inaccuracy in this article: there aren’t two separate roads called “Gardner” and “Holman”, but one road called “Gardner and Holman”. So what part of Longwarry-Drouin Rd is being reduced?

  2. Thanks Brigitte, corrected. That part should read (and now does read): “Longwarry Road will be brought down to 80kmph from 100 between Gardner and Holman Road and Longwarry Drouin Road.”
