Two West Gippsland broiler farms are under Department of Primary Industry (DPI) supervision following claims chickens at the farms were not being regularly fed.

Spokesperson for the DPI Paul Sellars today told The Warragul Citizen two West Gippsland broiler farms are being “closely monitored” by the department, each containing between 40,000 and 300,000 chickens.

The farms are two of six to be raided by the DPI late last week, with chickens from the other four farms located in Northern and South West Victoria being seized by the department.

All six farms produce chickens for the same Melbourne-based company.

The chickens are disease free and are now being properly cared for and fed and will still be slaughtered for commercial sale when fully grown.
