Eastern Victoria Region MP Matt Viney has called on Premier Ted Baillieu to fund the promised Warragul Station upgrades and third rail crossing in the May budget.

Mr Viney said in a media release the projects should be included in the budget given Narracan MP Gary Blackwood’s claim they ready to go, and accused the government of misleading voters.

“Given that Mr Blackwood said it was completely shovel ready, and continues to say this, I expect it would not be difficult for the government to meet that commitment in this year’s budget,” Mr Viney said.

Mr Viney said the project was ready to go almost two years ago.

Mr Blackwood told The Warragul Citizen the projects will be delivered this term, but would not confirm if they would be funded in the next budget.

“The Coalition will deliver on its commitment to deliver both these projects in this term of Government,” Mr Blackwood said.

“I won’t pre-empt any budget detail. That will announced in two weeks.

“The final designs and costings for both projects are well advanced.”

Mr Viney also said the former Labor government had developed plans for the car park and underpass, bur Mr Blackwood said those plans were unworkable.

“The only design works the previous government undertook were for the car park which proved to be totally impractical, unaffordable, and misleading to the community,” Mr Blackwood said.

The state budget will be released by the Treasurer on the 1st of May.
