Warragul Fire Brigade introduced its two new trucks to over 1,000 people at its open day on Saturday.

The brigade’s new heavy tanker and transporter pod truck were officially handed over at the annual event, which also featured fire equipment demonstrations, SES rescue equipment rides, a 79-year-old fire truck, CPR tutorials, and more.

“Everyone’s walked away with something from the day, whether it be fire safety information, or home safety information from the police, or a CPR demonstration,” brigade captain Brian Dalrymple told the Baw Baw Citizen.
“There has definitely been something for everyone today.

“The feedback we’ve had has been fantastic.”

You might be asking yourself what on earth is a transporter pod truck is. Well…
“It’s specialised hazardous materials response [vehicle],” Brian explained.
“It represents a significant increase in equipment that we carry, and in turn a big increase to the service that we’re able to provide to the Baw Baw community.
“It’s replacing the vehicle we’ve had for close to 25 years now.
In short, the transporter pod truck is a large, well, truck, with a large detachable storage pod on the back and an arm to load and unload it. The images of the pod being unloaded and opened below should help:
The new tanker is pretty special too, carrying 1,000 litres more water than its predecessor.

“It’s a state of the art heavy tanker [which] represents the latest in firefighter safety, so [it’s] good all-round,” Brian said.

It’s a 1938 Dodge fire truck, which is kept and maintained by the Fire Services Museum in Melbourne.
