The Victorian Government has shone light on the details of its next budget.

The Victorian Government will fund development of a new car park and bus interchange at the Warragul Station in its next budget, but has not clarified if any new rail services will be provided.

Figures released today reveal $10.7 million has been committed for the development of over 200 new parking spaces and a bus interchange south of the station in the 2012-13 budget.

The new car park will see traffic lights placed at its entrance on the intersection of Alfred and Howitt Streets. The present car park will be upgraded to improve disabled access.

The car park and bus interchange will connect with the station via a ramp along Alfred Street, not the elevator-equipped pedestrian bridge planned in the Warragul Station Precinct Project.

Other Warragul Station Precinct Projects have not been funded in the new budget.

The project is expected to be finished in 2014.

Transport Minister Terry Mulder said the project’s final design is yet to be determined.

“Further information about the project and opportunities for community input will be provided once the project is further developed,” Mr Mulder said.

Mr Mulder also announced funding for additional V/Line rolling stock, but member for Eastern Victoria Matt Viney criticised the announcement for a lack of clarity.

“Gippsland train passengers want more services, greater capacity on peak services and trains that run on time,” Mr Viney said.

“I would expect that today’s announcement would see new services and more seats on the Gippsland line, but we just don’t know.”

The new budget will also fund new early childhood development workers in Gippsland.

The budget will come into effect on July 1.

Its awesome they’ve funded some of it but for goodness sake they should get rid of parking just near station so they can put in a tunnel so we can walk through easily rather than walking via. Alfred Rd which is silly!

  2. Jadon says:

This is not correct. The Government HAS NOT funded $10.7 million in the 2012-13 Budget.
For the second year in a row, Gary Blackwood has failed to fulfill his promise to fully fund this project that he said during the election was ready to go “as soon as funding was available”.
