A 75-year-old Drouin woman has died after colliding with a reversing rubbish truck on the Princes Highway in Drouin yesterday.

Investigators were told the woman drove into the back of the truck at around 6.50am.

The woman was transferred to The Alfred hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The truck driver, a 53-year-old Willow Grove man, was not injured and the 75-year-old was the only occupant of the car.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and will prepare a report for the coroner.

The crash brings the 2012 Victorian road toll to 236, six more than this time last year.
