The game was the Warragul team’s first since moving from the Gippsland league to the metropolitan league and coach Adrian Huizer said he was pleased with the performance

“Of course I was happy,” Mr Huizer told The Warragul Citizen.

“It was a good effort by the girls. A good start to the season for us.”

The team, which featured players from across Gippsland, had been in training for a relatively short period of time.

“We’ve been training for about eight weeks or so, so it’s been a good start of the season,” Mr Huizer said.

“The way we combined together as a team after a short period of time training, and to have a couple of people score multiple goals, is a good thing.”

“We’ve now moved from the Gippsland league into the metropolitan league so it’s a stronger competition, all Warragul [United] teams have gone up there.”

The team will face the winner of a game between two Melbourne clubs next week, but Mr Huizer said he was not about to rest easy on the back of this weekend’s exceptional score.

“There’s always things we can improve on. Fitness probably would be one of the main things we can improve on, so just as long as the girls get the training we can work that out.”

Warragul United goals:

Katelin Lugton: 4

Tumi Yusuf: 3

Lani Murdoch: 2
