[News short] V/LINE is warning commuters to expect delays of up to 30 minutes this afternoon with heat speed restrictions on trains along the Gippsland line.

The regional rail operator imposes the speed restrictions between midday and 8pm on days when the temperature is forecast to exceed 36 degrees.

The forecast high for Melbourne today is 38 degrees and temperatures throughout West Gippsland are expected to be similar.

There is a possibility a small number of services will be replaced by buses.
